Madagascar vanilla bean butter sponge, reverse-creamed for a tight, velvety crumb that carries any filling.
Cakes.codes
Write the config, watch your cake compile layer by layer, then we bake the exact build by hand in our Mile End kitchen.
- import { bake } from "@cakes/oven";
- const cake = bake({
- layers: ,
- sponge: ,
- filling: ,

- drips: ,
- topping:

Every cake compiles in five stages, and every stage has a number we never guess.
Generative design picks the shape. Pastry science makes it stand up. Our configs are only as good as the temperatures, ratios and chilling times behind them, so here they are, in the open.

$ bake
Bake the sponges
Butter sponges bake at 175 °C until a probe reads 96 °C at the centre. They rest overnight wrapped, which firms the crumb for clean levelling.
175 °C · 32 min (8 in) -
$ level --torte 3
Level and fill
Each tier is torted into three layers. A piped dam of buttercream holds soft fillings such as raspberry compote or lemon curd in place.
3 layers · 1 cm filling -
$ coat --crumb
Crumb coat and chill
A thin coat of Italian meringue buttercream, made with a syrup cooked to 118 °C, locks the crumbs. Then 30 minutes at 4 °C before the final coat.
syrup 118 °C · chill 4 °C -
$ stack --dowels
Stack on dowels
Every tier above the first sits on its own cake board, carried by food-safe dowels cut flush to the tier below. A centre dowel keeps tall builds true.
5 dowels per tier -
$ drip --temp 33
Pour the drip
Dark ganache at a 1:1 ratio with cream, white chocolate at 3:1, poured at 32 to 35 °C on a cold cake. Warmer runs to the board; cooler stops short.
1:1 · 32 to 35 °C
// why the preview drips the way it does: the drip length in your config maps to pouring temperature. 0.2 is a cool 31 °C ganache that barely leaves the edge; 1.0 is a 36 °C pour that runs two thirds of the way down the tier.
Import a flavour, not a compromise.
Every module is a recipe we have baked hundreds of times, versioned like code. When we improve a recipe, the version number goes up and the changelog says why.
Dutch-process cocoa bloomed in hot coffee, with buttermilk for moisture. Deep, dark and sturdy enough for five tiers.
Sicilian pistachio paste folded into a light sponge, no colouring added: the green you see is the nut.
Québec raspberries cooked to 104 °C with a little pectin, so the compote sets inside the dam and never bleeds into the sponge.
Dry caramel taken to deep amber at 180 °C, finished with cream, butter and fleur de sel from the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
70 % dark chocolate ganache tuned for a glossy, controlled drip. Also compiles to white, raspberry, mint and caramel targets.

Caramel Overflow

Mint Condition
Pistachio sponge with lemon curd under a mint white chocolate drip and fresh berries.

What our clients shipped.
“We changed the drip three times in the editor at midnight. The cake that arrived matched the last render to the macaron.”
Camille and Ravi, Outremont
“Every module listed its allergens like a dependency file. Our HR team has never been so calm about a cake.”
Sophie T., studio in Griffintown
“My daughter wrote the config herself and chose the candles. She now wants to learn JavaScript. Win-win.”
Marc-André D., Verdun
